Air Marshal NJS Dhillon, AVSM, takes over as Strategic Force Commander (SFC). He is an alumnus of Sainik School Kapurthala, National Defence Academy, Defence Service Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College. He was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force on 11 Dec 81. He has over 3700 hours of accident free Hying to his credit including 5800 sorties on all variants of MIG-21aircraft.
In 1991, he topped the Fighter Strike Leader Course at TACDE.He also served In TACDE as Deputy Commandant. He held a number of coveted appointments which Include command of MIG-21 Squadron, command o• a Fighter Station In South-Western Sector,command of a helicopter base in DR Congo as part of UN Peace Keeping Mission, Chief Operations Officer of a premier Hying base, Principal Director Air Defence at Air HQ, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Inspection) at Air HQ and Air Defence Commander HQ SAC. Prior to taking over as Commander-in-Ch ef, Strategic Forces Command,he was Senior Air Staff Officer,HQ WAC. He has the rare distinction of being the longest serving Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command in the last four decades.
For his distinguished service,he was awarded Ati Vishisht Sena Medal by the President of India in 2013.
He is married to Mrs Simmar Dhillon and is b essed with a daughter and son.
