- In November 2017, a cordon & search operation was launched in Algar village, South kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir on input of presence of three terrorists. Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh was deployed in inner cordon as part of Combat Action Team under Captain Kaninder Paul Singh.
- On positive identification of complex of target houses, and having readjusted the cordon, a search team including Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh was formulated. Considering his tactical & professional excellence he was made part of entry team. Having cleared two houses Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh alongwith his buddy moved ahead to clear the adjacent cowshed. Upon entering the completely dark cowshed as Entryman Number 1, he came under heavy effective fire from the cowshed from three different directions. Unmindful of his personal safety, he retaliated immediately. All three terrorists started aimed firing at Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh in a bid to overpower him. In a single handed gallant action displayed by Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh, he provided cover fire and afforded opportunity to his buddy Rifleman Aurangzab to extricate himself not only out of cowshed, but also kept the three terrorists engaged thus prevented their escape out of cowshed. This also resulted in gaining of time to readjust the cordon by Captain Kaninder Paul Singh. In the ensuing firefight, he sustained bullet injuries on his chest and legs. Despite being grievously wounded and numerically overwhelmed by terrorists Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh continued dominating and engaging the terrorists, which led to neutralization of one terrorist and injuring of another.
- Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh in the highest traditions of Army, made supreme sacrifice for the nation. For displaying heroic action, indomitable spirit, exceptional bravery, camaraderie, espirit-de-corps, leading to saving the life of his buddy and neutralization of two hardcore terrorists of Pakistan and injuring of another terrorist by making supreme sacrifice for the nation in line with highest traditions of Indian Army, Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh has been awarded ‘Kirti Chakra (Posthumous)’.

Based on intelligence inputs, regarding presence of four foreign terrorists in an village in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir an operation was launched in March 2018. Lieutenant Colonel Arjun Sharma was entrusted the responsibility for Cordon and Search. During search, four terrorists were seen running towards a Nala.
Lieutenant Colonel Arjun Sharma with utter disregard to personal safety, leading from the front, jumped into the Nala and chased the terrorists boldly, and established contact. The terrorists opened heavy fire and lobbed grenades on the Officer at closed range. Displaying uncommon valour and exceptional leadership, the officer eliminated the first terrorist at eight meters. He reoriented the close cordon ensuring the terrorists remain trapped. At approximately 1000 hours the terrorists tried to escape however the officer immediately engaged and eliminated the second terrorist.
Subsequently the terrorists were engaged with grenades and small arms fire leading to elimination of four foreign terrorists. Four AK-47 rifles, ammunition and explosives were recovered thus preventing a major terrorist strike.
In view of the exemplary leadership, swift action, outstanding valour, with complete disregard to personal safety, Lieutenant Colonel Arjun Sharma has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

Major Pawan Gautam is a highly daring and dedicated officer. He created effective intelligence network in his area of responsibility in Jammu and Kashmir. With his ingenuity and relentless effort and by breaking into network of Over Ground Workers, the officer generated specific intelligence resulting in elimination of seven hardcore terrorists.
On 31 March 2018, on receipt of input about presence of terrorists in a village in Shopian, Maj Pawan Gautam displaying tactical acumen of highest order, meticulously planned and established a fool proof cordon with stealth and surprise. He alongwith his buddy Rifleman Mohd Maroof tactically approached the target house but suddenly came under heavy volume of terrorist fire from the house. Two terrorists came out firing indiscriminately trying to break the cordon and also lobbed hand grenades on them, thus injuring Rfn Mohd Maroof. Maj Pawan Gautam displaying raw courage under heavy fire, retaliated and neutralised one terrorist and rescued his injured buddy. The second terrorist took position and brought down heavy volume of fire on the officer and lobbed hand grenades on him. Simultaneously, other terrorists in the house also opened fire on officer and his party. With total disregard to personal safety, displaying nerves of steel under heavy indiscriminate terrorist fire, the officer crawled towards the hiding terrorist and neutralised him from very close range and caused injuries to other terrorists. Two terrorist were neutralised by the officer, in addition five more terrorists were neutralised during this operation.
For displaying exemplary leadership, raw courage and conspicuous gallantry beyond call of duty resulting in elimination of a total of seven hardcore terrorists, Major Pawan Gautam has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

- Ever since deployment in Jammu and Kashmir, Major Aditya Kumar has been involved in eastablishing a highly effective intelligence network and cultivation of sources for obtaining real time intelligence.
- In November 2017, on receipt of information about presence of four terrorists in Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir, the officer displayed high degree of professional acumen in galvanizing his team into action. Using his thorough knowledge of the terrain he established an initial cordon without loss of surprise. This initial action helped localise the terrorists move and restricted them to the target house.
During the ensuing gunfight, the officer coordinated firing of all weapons on the house to create a breach thereby injuring the terrorists inside. With utter disregard to his personal safety he moved closer to one such breach and brought down accurate fire on one of the foreign terrorists, neutralizing him from close quarters. The officer displayed raw courage and excellent presence of mind in moving close to another terrorist firing from window of the house and neutralizing him.

Major Pawan Kumar displayed astute tactical acumen, indomitable spirit and raw courage which led to elimination of a hardore terrorist in Uri Sector in September 2017.
A top terrorist whilst infiltrating from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir by taking cover of darkness, thick foliage, boulders and folds of the ground was effectively engaging own troops with accurate fire. The terrorist because of the folds could not be engaged directly. Major Pawan realising the gravity of situation and danger to safety of own troops, undaunted by heavy volumes of fire, displaying raw courage in the face of enemy used folds of the ground to crawl towards the terrorist and closed in the distance. He lobbed a grenade at the terrorist forcing him to expose himself and in a fierce encounter shot him dead from a close quarter. His elimination not only saved lives of own troops but also prevented revival of terrorism in the valley.
For displaying perseverance, dedication to duty, unmatched bravery and display of raw courage in the face of the enemy, Major Pawan Kumar has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

In October 2017, on receipt of input of presence of three terrorists in a village in South Kashmir of Jammu and Kashmir, IC-78575F Captain Kaninder Paul Singh, Ghatak Platoon Commander immediately launched to cordon the village. Captain Kaninder Paul Singh quickly & effectively laid the cordon of the target houses. While readjusting the cordon, he was informed of suspicious movement from one of the house, which was challenged by the officer. His challenge was returned with heavy retaliation of fire from the terrorists.
In a swift action, displaying raw courage and putting himself in mortal danger, the officer maneuvered closer to the terrorist to engage him at close quarter and eliminated one hardcore terrorist, later identified as a Category ‘A’.
Again in March 2018, based on specific input of presence of large group of terrorists, a cordon was laid in a village of South Kashmir. The terrorists having trapped in the cordon started indiscriminate heavy fire and tried to break the cordon. Captain Kaninder alongwith his buddy Sep Vijay Singh Gurjar moved forward and immediately brought accurate fire on the terrorists. The terrorists brought down heavy small arms fire and lobbed hand grenades towards the officer and his buddy. Unmindful of his personal safety, the officer advanced towards the terrorists under heavy volume of small arms fire and hand grenades by terrorists and neutralised one terrorist. The second terrorist tried to run back under cover of heavy fire including fire of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher from the hiding terrorists. Exhibiting indomitable spirit and raw courage in life threatening situation and with utter disregard to personal safety, officer crawled ahead and neutralised the second terrorist in close combat with his personal weapon and injured other terrorists givng cover fire from house.

In September 2017, at around 1835 hours in a village of South Kashmir of Jammu and Kashmir, a group of fleeing terrorist fired on Captain Varma Jayesh Rajesh, who was in the process of laying the cordon. With utter disregard to personal safety, displaying utmost courage and excellent tactical acumen, he, maneuvered to a tactically advantageous position and eliminated one of the two terrorist in a gunfight at close quarters, and forced the third terrorist to be localised to a nearby cluster of houses. The officer determined to neutralize the hidden terrorist, displaying extreme grit and putting his life in peril, user skillful battle craft, crawled closer to target to lob a grenade, under heavy volume of fire and retaliation by terrorist, which neutralised the third terrorist. In this act the officer received splinter injury in his right leg. Displaying professionalism beyond call of duty, officer refused to be evacuated and continued to lead the operations.
For displaying indomitable courage, under extreme danger, bold leadership and determination with quick planning, resulting in the elimination of two hardcore terrorists, Captain Verma Jayesh Rajesh has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

Naib Subedar Anil Kumar Dhayia was Second-in-Command of the detachment deployed on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, tasked to intercept terrorist movement form their launch pad.
Based on information gained and profiling of target, detachment under Major Krishan Singh Rawat, SM was launched on December 2017 to intercept terrorist movement. Naib Subedar Anil Kumar Dhayia on 04 December 2017, employing exceptional field craft, crawled with his buddy to within 100 metres of a position where terrorists had established a hideout. Steadfast and vigilant, after almost 36 hours of continued surveillance, he observed movement of five terrorists along a track. Once in the killing area, he with precise action eliminated three terrorists.
For displaying conspicuous valour, inspiring junior leadership, outstanding tactical acumen and strong resolve, Naib Subedar Anil Kumar Dhayia has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

Naib Subedar Vijay Kumar Yadav of 15 Maratha Light Infantry was part of Company Quick Reaction Team and Post Commander deployed on forward post on line of control.
In February 2018, upon realising that enemy actions has been initiated onto own neighbouring post Nb Sub Vijay quickly sprung into action and provided mutual support fire to the targeted post. However, soon he discovered that enemy was taking cover in defiladed positions. Realising danger to own neighbouring post, with complete disregard to personal safety he led the Quick Reaction Team and rushed towards the incident site under heavy enemy fire. Fearlessly leading his team swiftly cordoned off the enemy Border Action Team and terrorists. Nb Sub Vijay crawled ahead and killed one terrorist at close range. He then pounced ahead and shot another terrorist trying to retrieve the dead terrorist which led the enemy to seek immediate disengagement and flee. Realising the importance he held onto the dead terrorist retrieving his body. His fearless yet tactically sound act led to foiling of planned attack by Border Action Team.
For displaying commendable bravery, exemplary leadership, grit determination, selflessness and fearless spirit, Naib Subedar Vijay Kumar Yadav has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

Havildar Kul Bahadur Thapa, an avid mountaineer and combat diver was part of the troop deployed along the Line of Control to prevent enemy attacks on own posts in Sunderbani Sector.
In February 2018, movement of four heavily armed hostiles, opposite own post, trying to infiltrate was observed by own troops. Discerning the threat to own posts, Havildar Kul immediately launched his squad. Undeterred by the unforgiving terrain, leading his squad, he crossed the freezing river and scaled a steep cliff to position the squad and established contact with the hostiles. In the ensuing firefight, own troops were pinned down by intense hostile fire. Sensing the grave threat to own troops, Havildar Kul crawled under the hail of bullets to reposition himself and eliminated two hostiles at close range as also grievously injured other two by throwing grenades. The enemy intercepts later revealed the killed hostiles as his soldiers and injured hostiles as civilian accomplices to the infiltrating group.
For displaying most conspicuous gallantry, tactical acumen and outstanding leadership in combat, while killing two enemy soldiers and grievously injuring two hostile civilian accomplices, thereby preventing own casualties during the action, Havildar Kul Bahadur Thapa has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

Havildar Jaweed was part of the Troop deployed in the Line of Control to intercept terrorist infiltration along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. A veteran of anti terrorist operations, he volunteered to be part of the troop despite suffering from an injured ankle.
In January 2018, movement of eleven heavily armed hostiles trying to infiltrate along the Line of Control was observed by own troops. The troop immediately launched to cut off the hostiles who opened indiscriminate fire and scattered in the dense undergrowth when intercepted by own troops. Own squad drew intense fire from a group of hostiles hiding in the undergrowth. Discerning grave threat to own troops, Havildar Jaweed, displaying superlative battle craft, closed in with the hostiles while maintaining his calm and shot dead two hostiles and grievously injured another one at close quarters. The enemy intercepts later confirmed the hostiles as his soldiers.
For displaying conspicuous gallantry, dogged determination, unflinching resolve and exceptional battle craft while single handedly eliminating two enemy soldiers and grievously wounding one, Havildar Jaweed Ahmad, Sena Medal has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

Gunner Ranjit Singh was part of inner cordon during a specific operation in Jammu and Kashmir. He along with his buddy was deployed to cover the most anticipated escape route. The position was devoid of any cover and they used bullet proof shield for safety.
When cordon was being readjusted, six heavily armed terrorists ran out from the target house and opened heavy fire at their position with the intent of escaping into the built up area. The bullet proof shield used by them was hit by six bullets and cracked, and Ranjit Singh received a gunshot wound in his thigh. However, realising that if terrorists get beyond his position, they will endanger his colleagues and also escape, he, inspite of being grievously wounded, engaged the terrorists effectively, killing one and wounding two others. Faced with effective fire, terrorists abandoned this escape route and changed direction towards the designated killing area, where they were successfully eliminated.
For displaying conspicuous act of gallantry and acting beyond the call of duty, Gunner Ranjit Singh has been awarded “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

On 06 Nov 2017, a Cordon & Search Operation was launched at village Aglar on input of presence of three terrorists. Number 9115892W Rifleman Aurangzab, having detailed knoledge of terrain and layout of houses, volunteered for search team.
Having cleared two houses, the search party moved ahead for clearing of cowshed wherein sudden and indiscriminate heavy fire was brought down by terrorists, grievously injuring , buddy of Rifleman Aurangzab unmindful of his personal safty, exibiting conspicuous bravery facing grave mortal danger crawled ahead and engaged the three terrorists in an intense firefight. He, in a single handed gallant action, displaying spirit of camaraderie, retrieved his injured comrade and injured the three terrorists, thus localising them and preventing their escape which led to their subsequent nutralisation.
For, indominatable spirit, camaraderie, conspicuous bravery and exceptional initiative under grave danger leading to evacuation of injured soldier and subsequent nutralisation of three terrorists, I recommend Number 9115892W Rifleman Aurangzab for the award of “SHAURYA CHAKRA”.

No. G/5008469A Rifleman Late Jaiprakash Oran of 4 Assam Rifles was born on 20 Febraury 1984 at Nawadih Village , District Ranchi, Jharkhand. He passed 10th class under Board of Secondary Education, Jharkhand in 2002. At the age of 21 year, he was enrolled in Assam Rifles on 21 June 2005 as Recruit/ General Duty. After completing his basic training he joined 4th (Manipur) Battalion Assam Rifles on 09 August 2006.
Rifleman Late Jaiprakash Oran was a dedicated and disciplined soldier of high professional acumen and always volunteered to undertake the most challenging and arduoys tasks of the Battalion. He by virtue of his enthusiasm and devotion to duty was an inspiration for all in the Unit. He was a role model and a guiding person to all under him. A soldier of high integrity and ingenuity, he was liked by his superior and subordinate alike. He was an asset to the organisation. As part of Road Operating Party on 15 November 2017 when ambushed by a group of upto seven Under Grounds armed with sophisticated weapons, Rifleman (Late) Jaiprakash Oraon was hit on the chest.Despite being grievously injured, his gallant action and raw courage resulted in elimination of two senior cadres and inflicted injury to two more Under Grounds. The violent speed of counter ambush forced other Under Grounds to flee in panic. Rifleman (Late) Jaiparakash Oraon as per the highest tradition of Assam Rifles made supreme sacrifice by fearlessly fighting the Under Grounds.

SAHURYA CHAKRA (GALLANTRY)

Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai, 4 Assam Rifles, deployed in Sajik Tampak, Manipur was part of Operation Chamol on 15 November 2017.
Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai was part of three member’s team tasked to sanitize the area 300 meters on either side of SIKHLI Mor and establish piquet as part of Road Opening Party. The team started deliberate sanitization at 0530h. A group of 7 to 8 Under Grounds taking advantage of dense foliage, undulating ground and heavy fog sprung an ambush on the piquet party and brought down heavy volume of fire using sophisticated Assault Rifles from close range. In the initial burst of Under Ground fire Havildar General Duty Gomi Pun sustained Gun Shot Wound on his left arm and Rifleman (Late) Jaiprakash Oraon was hit on chest. In a rare act of gallantry, Rifleman General Duty Rathva Lilesh Bhai, who was the lead scout, dashed down and crawled under heavy Under Ground fire towards Rifleman (Late) Jaiprakash Oraon. Having spotted the Under Grounds and sensing Rifleman General Duty (Late) Jaiprakash Oraon was hit, Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai took Light Machine Gun from him. In a series of quick actions, exhibiting raw courage, presence of mind and tactical acumen Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai moved close to Under Ground position and brought down effective fire, thereby eliminating two senior cadres and inflicting injury to two more Under Ground. The aggressive counter ambush and violent speed of retaliation forced the Under Grounds to flee in panic. The body of one of the Under Ground was recovered from the incident site and one other was recovered during search operations on 21 November 2017. Huge quantity of war like stores including one unexploded Improvised Explosive Device was later recovered from the site.
For displaying unparalled bravery, conspicuous gallantry with utter disregard to own safety, tactical acumen and dogged determination in the highest traditions of Indian Army, Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai has been awarded ‘Shaurya Chakra’.
