Indian Army Rescues Critically Injured US Citizen Barry Roberts

Barry Roberts ( US citizen) who was paragliding alone in vicinity of Palampur got injured at approx 1500 hr when his paraglider hit a rock surface at 3900 metres altitude.

International Emergency Response Coordination Center approached IGI airport for SOS rescue; and subsequently Dy Commissioner was approach for rescue. HQ 33 Mtn Bde was approach by DC Kangra for rescue ops at 2000hr.

Subsequently, 33 Mtn Bde Coordinated with 39 Mtn Div, Northern Command, 9 Corps, Western Command & AOC J&K. Meanwhile, DC obtained necessary clearance from MOD & US Embassy.

Finally, Army Aviation helicopter from Pathankot under Western Command was tasked for necessary SAR ops and Barry Roberts was rescued successfully from crash site in early hrs of 25th Oct and landed at Yol in Kangra district.
