Indian Navy officer Captain DK Sharma Reports TROPEX 2017 Live on board INS Vikramaditya (EXCLUSIVE) in the western Sea board (Arabian Sea).
Migs, Kamov-35, Chetak, Sukhoi, Jaguars, Air To Air refueller aircrafts, AWACS participated in the exercise. Multi threat scenario to check effectiveness and combat readiness of Indian fleet.
More than 50 ships of Indian Navy along with 11 ships of Indian COast Guard (ICG) and 5 submarines are pulled in the exercise. The participating ships are of Kolkata class, Shivalik Class, INS Vikramaditya, INS Chakra and Jalaswa taking part in this annual theatre level exercise.
CNS Admiral Sunil Lanba inform that the exercise TROPEX is being held in the beginning of the year from January to March. to hone combat skills. Eastern fleet come from Vishakhapatnam to join Western fleet. Both fleets carry out independent and join exercise. Navy chief himself witness the exercise – firing of surface to air and surface to surface missile. The carry out exercise with over water aircrafts and under water submarines.
Every year there are focussed areas around which exercise is carried out. Indian Navy is fully network centric.
Rear Admiral RV Pandit, Fleet Commander, Western Fleet said that the operational environment is increasingly complex. Indian Navy faces challenges from all the dimensions, the subsurface, surface and the air. The exercise lends opportunity to sharpen the skill to
meet these challenges. As part of the joint exercise, Indian Navy mock exercised the contingency where terrorists infiltrated one of the island of Lakshddweep group and controlled the situation.
And done casualty evacuation in such a scenario.
