MAJOR FIRE ON BOARD OIL TANKER ANCHORED OFF KANDLA PORT, ICG PITCHED IN

Major fire reported on MT Genessa (Oil Tanker) anchored 15 nautical miles off Deendayal Port Kandla at 1800hrs today. The Tanker 183 metres in length with a Draft of 10 metres is known to be carrying around 30,000 tonnes of High Speed Diesel.
The Indian Coast Guard swung into action on receipt of information. All 26 crew members evacuated safely (including 02 with burn injuries). Coast Guardfighting fire using tugs and rigs available from nearby resource agencies. ICG Interceptor Boat C-403 at the scene coordinating rescue and fire fighting effort.

ICG Pollution Control team activated. One ICG Dornier also pressed into action.

Assistance in fire fighting being rendered by tugs pooling resources from Reliance, Adani, Kandla, Essar. Coast Guard Pollution Control Vessel enroute to the site to control oil spill if any.

Coast guard is preparing to cordon the vessel to avoid oil spillage, the operation is being coordinated with the help of tugs.
