VEM Technologies Ltd, a leading defence integrator is coming up with its own missile equivalent but smaller than Javelin missile. The missile is construed as first of its kind developed by a private sector company.

“I am really very proud in announcing this that most part of the system we have already realised. We are now going to opt for services in bits and pieces because we are just waiting for the exclusive facilities to be ready to test our warhead and the propulsion”, said Dr. V. Venkata Raju, Chiarman, VEM Technologies Limited.

The company, which also a major stakeholder in LCA program has already developed fire control system, roaming head, guidance, servo section and launch tube assembly. Development of indigenous missile by an Indian private sector company is construed as a major boost for “Make In India”.

The missile would be first of its kind indigenously developed by a Private company with matching global qualities. In August this year, Kalyani Group and Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defence System collaborated to set up India’s first private sector missile sub-system manufacturing facility to make anti-guided tank missile (ATGM).

Chandrababu Naidu led Government has already decided to allocate 325 acres of land in Pedavegi Mandal of West Godavari district to the Hyderabad-headquartered, defence and aerospace company VEM Technologies Ltd to set up weapon integration facility. The company is likely to invest over Rs 2,000 Cr in the project.

The company has technology tie up with Lockheed Martin (LM) and will be manufacturing important compaonents to Tejas, the country’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).
