Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, marking their second meeting in less than two weeks. The two leaders had earlier met on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek on August 31.

The meeting focused on India-Iran bilateral relations, BRICS cooperation and the evolving situation in West Asia.
Prime Minister Modi thanked President Pezeshkian for Iran’s continued high-level participation in BRICS meetings despite challenging circumstances. He highlighted the potential of BRICS to promote resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability across the Global South.
PM Modi also appreciated President Pezeshkian’s participation in the Leaders’ Session of the BRICS Business Forum, underlining the growing economic and multilateral dimensions of India-Iran engagement.
West Asia situation discussed
The two leaders also exchanged views on recent developments in West Asia.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent position that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He stressed the importance of continued efforts towards lasting peace and stability in the region.
India also highlighted the need to safeguard freedom of navigation and commerce, along with the safety and well-being of seafarers.
The two sides also appreciated their continued cooperation on issues of mutual interest in multilateral platforms, including BRICS.
