The National Cadet Corps (NCC) team safely returned to the Everest Base Camp on 19 May 2025, after successfully summiting Mount Everest on 18 May 2025. This achievement marks a hat-trick of successful NCC summits, following earlier ones in 2013 and 2016 respectively.

A key highlight of the expedition was the performance of the ten NCC Cadets, comprising of novice climbers who were rigorously trained and meticulously selected through a stringent national selection process. The selected team, comprised of an equal number of girl and boy cadets.

 

The team, with an average age of 19 years where the youngest member was aged 16, showed discipline, endurance, and teamwork throughout the expedition resulting in a 100% summit success rate.

Their physical readiness and morale were commended not by only the Sherpa guides but also fellow International Climbers. Despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain, the team successfully reached the summit and proudly unfurled the NCC Flag alongside the National Flag.

 

 

As part of the preparation for the Mount Everest expedition, cadets participated in a Pre-Everest climb to Mt Abi Gamin.

 

This was followed by a winter training camp conducted at the Army Mountaineering Institute, Siachen Base Camp. Based on their performance during these training phases, the Cadets were shortlisted and selected for the final expedition. The details of the selected cadets are as follows :-

(a)        Cadet Monika from Rajasthan.

(b)        Cadet Pratima Rai from West Bengal.

(c)        Cadet Rifiness Warjri from Meghalaya.

(d)        Cadet Kritika Sharma from Himachal Pradesh.

(e)        Cadet Abida Afreen from Ladakh.

(f)         Cadet Mohit Knathia from Jammu & Kashmir.

(g)        Cadet Padma Namgail from Chandigarh.

(h)        Cadet Virendra Singh Samant from Uttarakhand.

(j)         Cadet Sachin Kumar from Uttarakhand.

(k)        Cadet Mukul Bangwal from Uttarakhand.

The expedition team was formally flagged off by the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, Rajnath Singh, on 03 April 2025.

 

 

Throughout the expedition, the team adhered diligently to established safety protocols and operational guidelines, ensuring the safety and well-being of all members.

 

The successful execution of the mission underscores the effectiveness of the NCC’s structured training and reflects the competence and potential of India’s youth on the global stage.
