Pakistan once again urged top UN body to push for plebiscite in Kashmir. On a discussion in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during “9884th meeting – Maintenance of international peace and security: Advancing adaptability in UN Peace Operations – Responding to new realities”, Mr Tariq Fatemi sought to draw the attention of top UN diplomats.
Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to Pakistani Prime Minister during a discussion on future of UN Peacekeeping in UNSC said, “Pakistani source to UN military observer group in India and Pakistan that was established in 1949 to monitor the ceasefire along the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir”.
“A dispute that remains on the agenda of security council and awaits a just and final settlement in accordance with relevant resolutions of this council. That promise to the Kashmiri people the right to self determination through a UN supervised plebiscite. It is the responsibility of this council to ensure the realisation of that right for the Kashmiri people and promote a just and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute by taking measures to implement its own resolution”.
Mr. Tarq Fatemi added, “And I too echo it- it is important to address the real causes of conflict for durable peace”.
However, Indian Government has consistently on various occasions has asked Pakistan to vacate Indian territory under its illegal and forcible occupation. India’s External Affairs Minister recently also echoed the same sentiments recently in United Kingdom.
Pakistan’s statement in UN Security Council comes ahead of UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Meeting it is going to host in Islamabad next month.
India responded to Pakistan after it made a diversionary statement on Jammu and Kashmir in UN Security Council on 24th March. Speaking at the Security Council, India’s Permanent Representative to the U.N., Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, condemned Pakistan for attempting to “divert attention” from the core issue of future of UN peacekeeping. Mr. Harish said, “India is integral part of India and Pakistan should leave its illegal and forced occupation of part of Kashmir”.
“Such repeated references neither validate their illegal claims nor justify their state-sponsored cross-border terrorism,” Ambassador Harish said adding that “we would advise Pakistan not to try to divert the attention of this forum to drive their parochial and divisive agenda.”
He added that India would refrain from offering a more elaborated Right of Reply.
Yapper Pakistan did not stop at this and asked Denmark Presidency to speak again. Pakistan leaves no stone unturned to internationalize the issue. However, world does not listen to Pakistani lies.
